Pinning posts on Instagram
Taking your Instagram grid to the next level – Instagram brought out the pinning feature around June 2022.
Similar to TikTok’s feature, users can now pin up to 3 posts on their profile to be shown at the very top of their grid when someone visits their profile.
This feature is great to use for your important posts, high-performing posts or your favourite posts.
Focus on short, video-form content
With TikTok and Instagram reels making their rise – more people leaned towards short video clips.
Instagram started making the move to have all Instagram videos being reels. This means that all videos are now shown on the “reels” page on Instagram and any square videos automatically have a solid black extension to bring the aspect ratio to 9:16.
Have you joined this trend by posting TikToks and Instagram reels?
The rise of bereal
Potentially less feasible for businesses, but one of the top platforms that made a huge impact on the social media scene this year was BeReal.
BeReal is an app where users are notified at a random time every day to capture and share content within 2 minutes of the notification – using their device’s front and back cameras.
BeReal became so popular that even TikTok decided to take its own spin on the idea with “TikTok Now”. This means that users who participate in TikTok Now will be prompted to share a 10-second video or static photo with the front and back cameras!
We personally LOVE this one!
TikToks can now be scheduled
This one is a total game-changer.
TikTok finally took the plunge and collaborated with certain scheduling brands to allow users to schedule TikTok videos for a certain day and time!
This helps you stay consistent with posting and encourage more engagement from users!
Instagram made a change to their home feed algorithm
Another huge change that happened to Instagram this year is which content they showed to users on their homepage.
Beforehand, you would just see posts from people you followed including a few ads here and there. Instagram recently changed this by incorporating posts from “accounts you may like”.
So this would explain if users who don’t follow you are liking your pictures – your posts are now showing up on their homepage!
Liking stories on Instagram
Launched on Valentine’s Day for obvious reasons, Instagram introduced the feature of liking stories.
This action is completely private between you and the story creator and allows for more interactions on your stories – a win for everyone!
